ISO IEC 2593 pdf download Information technology — Telecommunications and information exchange between systems — 34-pole DTE/DCE interface connector mateability dimensions and contact number assignments
1 Scope
This lnternational Standard specifies the 34-pole connector and the assignment of contactnumbers at the interface between data terminalequipment (DTE) and data circuit-terminatingequipment(DCE)where ITU-iRecommendation v.36 or RecommendationX.21bis together with Recommendation V.10and v.11 are applicable.
NOTE 1An interoperationbetween interfacesdesignedaccording’ toelectricalcharacteristicsspecified in ITU-T Recommendation v.36 and thosespecified in ITU-T Recommendation V.11 is, at least toa limited degree, possible. This can be achieved, forexample, by using a passive adaptor which joins theinterface connectors in accordance with ISo/IEc 2593and lSO 4902, or ISo 4903, respectively.
This lnternational Standardspecifies thedimensions of the connector housing and givesrecommendations for the type of locking device(jack-screw system) and connector shielding.

3Definitions
For the purposes of this International Standard, the definitions given in lEC 60050(581) apply. Fortheconvenienceoftheusersof thislnternational Standard , the following definitionsare repeated.
3.1cable adaptor: A part of a connector oran accessory consisting of a rigid housing forattachment to the connector body. ltmayincorporate provision for a cable clamp or sealfor terminating screens and provide shielding toelectrical interference. lt may be straight orangled.
3.2connector housing:Apart ofaconnector into which the insert and contacts areassembled.
3.3contactarrangement: The number, spacing and configuration of contacts in acomponent.
3.4female contact: A contact intended tomake electrical engagement on its inner surfaceand which will accept entry of a male contact.
3.5intermateableconnectors:Twoconnectors are intermateable when they arecapable of being connected electrically andmechanicallybutwithoutregard to theirperformance and intermountability.
3.6jack-screw system: A device comprisinga set of captive screws and nuts used to coupleand uncouple mating components. lt may alsoprovide a polarization facility.
3.7locking device: A feature incorporated incertain components to provide mechanicalretention of their mating part.
